SUPERSTITIONS:-
Superstition in a wider sense means irrational fear of the unknown and mysteries. When people cannot justify certain things they assign mysteries and the cause of that happening. But the reality is different, there are things that man has not been able to explain with his limited knowledge. That is why there are superstitions in each and every community. Every community has different beliefs to become superstitious.

One interesting fact is that there is superstition at the root of religious faith and even in the belief in God. The Hindus consider a sneeze or the cry of a lizard or call from behind while leaving as ominous.  In our country it is said that if a black cat crosses someone's path, the journey is considered to be inauspicious. And the number thirteen is unlucky so it should be voided anyhow. "Superstition is a part of the very being of humanity."

Another is, certain combinations of stars and days of the moon are regarded as inauspicious.During the days of eclipse, pregnant lady has to hide herself in a dark room so that the eclipse will not harm the baby. And if the pregnant lady write something, there will be scar anywhere on her baby's body resembling that. So, they avoid doing anything at that point of time. It is wisely said by Bacon , "There is a superstition in avoiding superstition."

Superstition is very natural to man. But that does not conclude that it should be ignored. It is our duty to free our society from the effect of superstitions. It can be done with the help of educating people. Science conferences should be held and common people should be made aware of the importance of a scientific outlook and the harmful aspects of superstition.
